The Role — Community Psychiatry with Leadership Influence
This consultant post sits within a Community Mental Health Team delivering specialist care to adults with complex and enduring mental health needs. You will provide senior clinical leadership, guide multidisciplinary decision-making, and support continuity of care across community, primary care, and acute pathways.
The position offers real scope to shape service delivery, mentor developing clinicians, and contribute to system improvement — ideal for a psychiatrist who values both clinical excellence and collaborative leadership.

What You’ll Be Responsible For
You will:
- Lead psychiatric assessment, treatment planning, and risk management for CMHT patients
- Work closely with GPs, acute services, and community partners
- Maintain high standards of documentation and clinical governance
- Participate in service planning and quality improvement initiatives
- Supervise and appraise junior medical staff
- Support teaching, audit, and professional development activities
- Attend Trust academic programmes and CPD forums
- Undertake consultant appraisal and job planning reviews
- Ensure compliance with organisational and professional standards

Person Requirements
Essential
- Full registration with the General Medical Council
- MRCPsych (or recognised equivalent)
- CCT in General Adult Psychiatry or eligibility for Specialist Register entry within 12 months
- Section 12(2) approval
- Commitment to multidisciplinary and recovery-focused practice
Desirable
- Higher postgraduate qualification (MD, PhD, MSc, etc.)
- Liaison psychiatry accreditation
- Approved Clinician status at commencement
