About the Role

TEWV Pharmacy is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Pharmacy Assistant to join the Roseberry Park Hospital team. This role provides a structured career progression from Band 2 to Band 3, offering professional development and skill-building opportunities within a growing NHS pharmacy service.

We are looking for an exceptional team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills who is passionate about providing safe and effective medication support. Previous pharmacy experience is desirable but not essential, and while personal transport is useful, it is not mandatory.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work in accordance with pharmacy Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to manage ward medication top-ups and stock control
  • Dispense medications accurately for both inpatients and outpatients, following legal and safety requirements
  • Receive and electronically record medication supplies from wholesalers
  • Safely remove and handle unwanted or expired medications for return or destruction in line with policies
  • Dispense controlled drugs for ward stock and named patients, adhering to all legal requirements
  • Support emergency medication dispensing as required
  • Maintain effective stock control, including expiry checks and inventory management
  • Order patient medications for wards and maintain accurate records
  • Undertake relevant statutory and mandatory training and maintain professional competency
  • Engage in personal development with guidance from your line manager

About the Pharmacy Team

The TEWV Pharmacy team comprises over 100 staff, including drivers, pharmacy assistants, technicians, pharmacists, nurses, and administrative staff. Teams are spread across multiple sites but work collaboratively to share best practices, standardize processes, and continually improve services.

Person Specification

Experience:

  • Essential: Stock management, experience in a team environment, basic telephone and email communication
  • Desirable: Previous pharmacy experience, knowledge of software such as Excel and Word

Skills:

Essential: Accuracy and attention to detail, strong organizational skills, good oral and written communication, ability to work independently and under supervision, customer care skills

Desirable: Manual dexterity for medication handling, time management, ability to analyze and deliver information effectively

Qualifications:

  • Essential: Basic general education, GCSE Grade D or above in English and Maths
  • Desirable: NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services, or willingness to work toward it (NVQ Qualifications – GOV.UK)
