We are seeking a dedicated and ambitious Consultant in General Adult Psychiatry to join Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. This is a unique opportunity to work within a trust undergoing exciting transformation, maintaining safe, effective, and integrated mental health services.

You will provide expert clinical leadership across a range of services including inpatient care, recovery services, early intervention in psychosis, crisis resolution, home treatment, and adult (ageless) community mental health teams. Key Responsibilities

As a Consultant Psychiatrist, you will:

Lead and provide supervision across the multidisciplinary team (MDT), ensuring high-quality, patient-centred care.

Apply evidence-based practice and recovery-focused principles to assess, plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate interventions for individuals with complex mental health needs.

  • Manage a small, complex caseload, providing timely, flexible care for the most unwell or urgent patients.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments using a biopsychosocial model, integrating clinical, social, and psychological information.
  • Engage effectively with carers, ward teams, and partner services to support continuity of care.
  • Ensure robust risk assessment, safeguarding, and care planning aligned with statutory and organisational policies.
  • Support MDTs in delivering safe care by communicating clearly, managing anxiety, and promoting recovery-oriented interventions.
  • Participate in clinical governance, quality improvement, and service development initiatives.
  • Provide education, supervision, and oversight for junior staff and trainees.

Essential Qualifications and Registration

  • Full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)
    GMC Registration
  • MRCPsych or recognised equivalent
  • Eligible for inclusion on the Specialist Register (or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview) in General Adult Psychiatry
  • Approved under Section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
