About the Role
The Henley Business School at the University of Reading is seeking to appoint an ambitious and high-calibre Associate Professor in Accounting to join its Department of Finance and Accounting.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated academic with a strong research background and proven teaching experience in accounting. The successful candidate will contribute to the department’s research excellence, teaching innovation, and academic leadership.
The Department of Finance and Accounting consists of two main areas — Finance (ICMA Centre) and Accountancy — and the postholder will primarily contribute to Accounting.
Sponsorship under the UK Skilled Worker Route may be available for eligible applicants who meet the Home Office requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct high-quality independent research and demonstrate research leadership in Accounting.
- Publish in top-tier academic journals and actively contribute to the department’s research reputation.
- Apply for research funding and grants to support ongoing and future projects.
- Teach across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Accounting, including modules such as:
- Financial Accounting
- Management Accounting
- Data Analytics in Accounting
- Take on administrative and academic leadership duties as appropriate.
- Contribute to curriculum development, student mentoring, and departmental citizenship.
Essential Criteria
- PhD in Accounting, Finance, or Economics.
- Proven record of university-level teaching experience in Accounting.
- Demonstrated expertise in data analytics applied to Accounting.
- A strong portfolio of published research in high-impact Accounting journals.
- Commitment to supporting an inclusive and collaborative academic environment.
Desirable Attributes
- Ability to supervise PhD students and support early-career researchers.
- Experience in grant writing and collaboration on funded research projects.
- Engagement with professional or industry networks in accounting or finance.
