About Us

The Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources (BSEER) is part of UCL’s Faculty of the Built Environment. It brings together four world-leading institutes dedicated to advancing knowledge, research, and teaching in sustainability, energy, and environmental design.

About the Role

We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Teaching) specialising in Financing Net Zero and Healthy Buildings, to join both the Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering and the UCL Energy Institute.

This new position will play a key role in enhancing our teaching portfolio in sustainable finance, healthy building design, and net-zero transitions within the built environment.

The successful candidate will contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, with a focus on integrating financial models and methods into sustainability education. You will also help design and deliver new modules that explore the economic instruments, funding mechanisms, and investment strategies driving the shift toward sustainable and healthy buildings.

The post is permanent and expected to commence from 1 November (subject to recruitment timelines).

UCL welcomes applications from international candidates and can provide visa sponsorship where eligibility requirements under UK Visas and Immigration legislation are met.

About You

You will have:

  • A PhD (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant field related to finance, sustainability, or the built environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial analysis, economic modelling, and investment strategies applicable to sustainable and net-zero developments.
  • A strong interest in the intersection between finance, health, and the built environment.
  • A track record of delivering high-quality, inclusive, and engaging teaching at university level.
  • The ability to link theory with real-world applications in building design, retrofit, and sustainable development.

Experience or interest in teaching cost-benefit and health economics, particularly regarding indoor environmental quality, wellbeing outcomes, and societal impacts.

Strong communication and collaboration skills, with an enthusiasm for interdisciplinary learning and student engagement.

You will contribute to programmes such as the BSc/MEng Sustainable Built Environments, Energy and Resources, helping students understand how financial decision-making shapes environmental and social outcomes.
