About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the commercial dairy team at the University of Reading’s Centre for Dairy Research (CEDAR). You will play an essential role in the daily care, management, and welfare of our high-yielding herd of 530 Holstein cows, recognised for their excellent health and welfare standards.

This role is ideal for someone with strong stockmanship, practical dairy experience, and a genuine passion for animal welfare. You will work within a dedicated team focused on maintaining high production, welfare, and efficiency standards using modern facilities and equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver high standards of dairy cow husbandry, welfare, and health.
  • Support the daily management of the herd, including milking, feeding, and general livestock care.
  • Maintain accurate records and support herd health and production monitoring.
  • Work collaboratively within the dairy team to ensure smooth, efficient farm operations.
  • Adhere to health, safety, and biosecurity standards at all times.

About You

You will have:

  • Excellent stockmanship and attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of dairy cow husbandry and animal welfare.
  • Proven experience working with dairy herds.
  • A proactive attitude and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
