Job Description

About the Role

The University of Sussex invites applications for a Research Fellow in Digitalisation and Green Healthcare, contributing to an MRC-funded transdisciplinary hub aimed at decarbonising healthcare commissioning and delivery.

You will work on Sub-Theme 4: Digital and Remote Care Pathways, led by Professor Dimitra Petrakaki (University of Sussex Business School), as part of a wider collaboration with Professor Mahmood Bhutta at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS).

Your research will focus on identifying, assessing, and promoting sustainable innovations in digital healthcare pathways—supporting the NHS and broader health systems in reducing their carbon footprint while improving patient outcomes.

About You

You will have (or be close to completing) a PhD in a relevant discipline such as digital health, healthcare management, health policy, social sciences, or a related field. Alternatively, you should have significant professional research experience in this area.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Proven ability to conduct independent research in digitalisation and remote healthcare.
  • Strong analytical and writing skills, with experience in publishing or contributing to research outputs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams and contribute to a large research programme.
  • Experience managing your own workload and delivering to deadlines.
  • Evidence of impactful research or policy engagement (e.g., influencing policy, practice, or advocacy).

Desirable skills:

  • Experience with sustainability, digital transformation, or healthcare innovation research.
  • Familiarity with qualitative and/or mixed-methods research.
  • A track record of interdisciplinary collaboration.

You should be a self-motivated researcher with excellent communication and organisational skills, able to work independently while contributing to the success of a broader team.
