Your Role

You will lead on specialist psychiatric care for Service Personnel and eligible civilian patients, focusing on recovery-oriented interventions and tailored occupational recommendations. Your caseload will consist of the most complex or unstable cases, while also providing rapid consultation to colleagues when needed.

Typical referral flow:

  • Approx. 10 new referrals per week
  • Urgent assessments within 1 working day
  • Routine appointments within 15 working days
  • Unlike many NHS general adult psychiatry posts, this role carries lower morbidity, lower crisis burden, and minimal emergency demand.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):

  • Delivering evidence-based psychiatric assessments and treatment as part of a multidisciplinary mental health team
  • Providing clinical leadership that supports safe, effective, and high-quality mental health care
  • Maintaining continuity of care, including onward referral to regional or specialist services when appropriate
  • Offering expert advice to colleagues at short notice when clinically required
  • Working collaboratively with families and support networks where beneficial
  • Liaising with inpatient providers and attending ward rounds as necessary
  • Using advanced communication skills to sensitively explore highly personal or complex issues with patients

Essential Criteria

Registrations & Memberships:

  • Member or Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (or equivalent)
  • CCT in General Adult or Forensic Psychiatry, or within 6 months of completion at time of interview

Qualifications:

  • Valid GMC Specialist Register entry at commencement
  • Certificate of Specialist Training (or recognised equivalent)

You must provide:

  • GMC registration number
  • Membership details
  • Expected CCT date (if within 6 months)
