Overview of the Role
The University of Reading is seeking a dynamic and experienced administrator to manage the Doctoral Training Programme in Mathematics for our Future Climate (MFC). This programme is a collaborative initiative with Imperial College London and the University of Southampton, aiming to harness mathematical expertise to address pressing climate challenges.
You will lead the operational management of the MFC programme, coordinating activities with partner institutions, PhD students, academic staff, and support teams. This role offers the opportunity to innovate, streamline processes, and contribute to a high-profile interdisciplinary research initiative. Occasional travel to partner universities may be required.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day administration of the MFC PhD programme, ensuring smooth operation across all partner institutions.
- Organise and coordinate workshops, conferences, and other student-facing events.
- Support Centre Directors and MFC Administrators with operational tasks, including planning and communications.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress, programme activities, and reporting metrics.
- Monitor programme budgets and prepare financial reports.
- Provide high-level committee servicing and act as the first point of contact for MFC students and staff.
- Innovate and develop administrative processes to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the programme.
Person Specification
Qualifications: Degree or equivalent vocational qualification, or substantial relevant experience.
Experience: Proven experience in higher education administration, including event management and committee servicing.
Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organisational and project management skills
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
- Competence with IT systems and the confidence to learn new platforms
- Budget monitoring and reporting experience
- Attributes: Proactive, self-motivated, flexible, and able to work independently while collaborating effectively within a small team.
