Job Description

Role Overview

The University of Reading, School of Law, seeks an accomplished and research-focused Associate Professor in EU Law to strengthen our academic faculty. This role offers the opportunity to engage in high-impact teaching, research, and leadership activities, within a dynamic and internationally connected academic environment.

The postholder will contribute to the School of Law’s teaching agenda, support student experience initiatives, and conduct research that enhances the School’s global reputation. The successful candidate will have a proven record of high-quality publications and an emerging or established international profile in EU Law research.

Key Responsibilities

Research & Scholarship

  • Conduct world-leading research in EU Law (REF 3* and 4* outputs).
  • Develop a strategic 5-year research plan aligned with School priorities.
  • Publish in high-impact journals and contribute to international conferences.
  • Supervise PhD students and mentor early-career researchers.

Teaching & Learning

  • Deliver outstanding undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) teaching in EU Law.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and innovative teaching practices.
  • Support student engagement and success through high-quality supervision and mentorship.

Leadership & Service

  • Engage in academic leadership and contribute to the wider activities of the School of Law.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the University and internationally.
  • Contribute to School committees, policy development, and quality assurance processes.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Recognised record of research excellence in EU Law.
  • Proven ability to conduct high-quality research that meets REF 3* and 4* standards.
  • Internationally recognised expertise in EU Law.
  • Ability to provide high-quality teaching and PhD supervision.
  • Experience of academic leadership and broader contributions to academic life.

Desirable Attributes

  • Emerging global research esteem.
  • Willingness to contribute to the everyday life and strategic priorities of the School.
