Role Overview

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated doctor to join the Haemostasis & Thrombosis (H&T) service as a Senior Clinical Fellow for a fixed 12-month appointment. This post is ideal for candidates who have completed the MRCP and would like to develop enhanced clinical experience in bleeding disorders, thrombosis, and immune haematology.

This Fellowship does not carry a National Training Number (NTN). Applicants must therefore hold full GMC registration with an active licence to practise. Sponsorship may be available for candidates without UK residency rights. The duties are suitable for individuals who have completed a minimum of four years of postgraduate training, current haematology trainees, or those seeking post-CCT clinical fellowship experience.

Key Responsibilities

The post holder will work within a highly experienced multidisciplinary H&T team, delivering safe, effective, and evidence-based care for adults with:

  • Inherited and acquired bleeding disorders
  • Thrombotic conditions
  • Immune haematological disorders including ITP and TTP

Clinical duties will include:

  • Participation in specialist H&T outpatient clinics
  • Involvement in the assessment and management of inpatient haematology cases
  • Gaining experience in liaison haematology across the Trust
  • Working closely with consultant haematologists who will provide ongoing supervision and mentorship
  • This Fellowship does not require participation in the out-of-hours resident on-call rota.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • Full GMC registration with licence to practise
  • MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
  • Completion of all parts of MRCP

Desirable Qualifications

  • FRCPath or progress toward FRCPath
  • Postgraduate qualifications relevant to haematology

Clinical Experience

Essential:

  • At least 4 years of full-time postgraduate experience (or equivalent LTFT), including a minimum of 2 years in adult general medicine
  • Previous experience working within a Haematology service

Desirable:

  • Broader experience across related specialties or different clinical units
  • Research Skills

Essential:

  • Ability to critically interpret research evidence and apply it appropriately
  • Basic understanding of research design and statistical methods

Desirable:

  • Peer-reviewed publications
  • Awareness of ethical, regulatory, and methodological issues in clinical research

Teaching & Training

Essential:

  • Demonstrated enthusiasm and experience in teaching medical students or junior doctors

Desirable:

  • Training in educational methods
  • Evidence of effective teaching through feedback
  • Continuing Professional Development

Essential:

  • Evidence of CPD or CME participation within the last 12 months

Desirable:

  • Maintenance of an ongoing CPD portfolio or diary
  • Personal & Professional Attributes
  • Behaviour consistent with the Trust’s PROUD values
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English, meeting the standards set out in GMC Good Medical Practice (2013)
  • Understanding of the principles of clinical governance and quality improvement
