Our Primary Care Education Group is a globally recognised centre for excellence in teaching and research on clinical education in general practice.
Role Overview
This NIHR-funded, post-doctoral position offers up to four years of training for a General Practitioner (GP) who aims to become an independent researcher, educator, and leader in clinical education research. You will develop a focused and coherent research programme in a primary care education theme, aligned with your interests and the needs of primary healthcare.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and lead a research programme in clinical education, relevant to primary care.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate educational interventions for GPs or other primary care clinicians.
- Publish high-quality research in peer-reviewed journals.
- Present research at academic conferences and educational meetings.
- Engage in teaching and mentoring activities within UCL’s clinical education framework.
- Build partnerships across UCL, the NHS, and other academic or clinical institutions.
- Contribute to leadership and development of clinical education strategy within PCPH and the NIHR School for Primary Care Research.
Person Specification
Essential Criteria:
Fully qualified GP (General Medical Practitioner) with:
- Completed GP vocational training, AND
- Membership of MRCGP or equivalent
- Registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) AND listed on the NHS GP Performers List
- PhD or MD thesis submitted by the time of application, with award confirmed by 1 Sept 2026
- Demonstrated potential or experience in clinical education research
- Strong communication, teamwork, and leadership skills
Evidence of research output (publications, conference presentations, etc.)
Desirable Criteria:
- Previous teaching experience in a clinical or academic setting
- Experience in grant writing or obtaining research funding
- Knowledge of implementation science, evaluation methods, or educational theory
