Rate of Pay: £34.63 per hour, including a £13.57 market supplement, plus holiday pay
Contract: Ongoing
Working Arrangement: Hourly / Variable
Contracted Hours: Available on a minimum annual contracted-hours basis

About the opportunity

Are you passionate about helping students overcome barriers to learning and achieve their academic goals?

We are looking for Specialist One-to-One Study Skills Tutors to provide tailored support to students who may have specific learning difficulties, autism, or other disabilities. This is an opportunity to use your specialist knowledge and professional experience to help students develop effective study strategies, build confidence and make the most of their university experience.

You will work directly with individual students, identifying the strategies and practical approaches that best support their learning needs.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will:

– Provide specialist one-to-one study skills and disability strategy support.
– Work with students who have specific learning difficulties, autism and other disabilities.
– Help students develop practical approaches to studying, organisation and academic learning.
– Adapt your support to suit individual needs and circumstances.
– Encourage students to become more confident and independent learners.
– Maintain a professional and supportive approach throughout your work with students.

Essential professional requirements

Applicants must meet the relevant professional requirements for providing specialist study skills support.

You must have either:

Professional membership relevant to supporting students with specific learning difficulties, such as membership of one of the following:

– Association of Dyslexia Specialists in Higher Education (ADSHE)
– British Dyslexia Association (BDA)
– Dyslexia Guild
– PATOSS

The relevant professional requirements are outlined within the DSA-QAG mandatory criteria.

And/or

You must meet the Department for Education mandatory criteria for Specialist One-to-One Study Skills and Strategy Support – Autism Spectrum Conditions (SS-ASC).

The applicable criteria are set out in the current DSA-QAG/Student Loans Company practitioner matrix.

Professional development

The University recognises the importance of maintaining specialist knowledge and professional standards.

Where applicable, professional body membership fees will be reimbursed, and support is also available for some relevant continuing professional development (CPD) activities.

Visa sponsorship

This position may be eligible for sponsorship under the UK Skilled Worker visa route. However, individuals applying for sponsorship for the first time may need to meet specific salary requirements or qualify for an applicable salary concession.
