Role Overview

The School of Law at the University of Reading is seeking to appoint a talented and established Associate Professor in EU Law. This is a key opportunity to join a research-active and internationally engaged academic community that places equal emphasis on excellence in scholarship, innovative teaching, and an inclusive student experience.

The successful candidate will contribute to the School’s expanding expertise in European Union Law, support its robust teaching portfolio, and enhance the School’s reputation for impactful and internationally recognised legal research.

Main Responsibilities

Research

  • Produce high-quality scholarly work that contributes to the School’s strong performance in the Research Excellence Framework.
  • Maintain an active programme of research, including publications rated at 4* and 3*.
  • Demonstrate international engagement and build a profile of global research esteem.
  • Develop and sustain a clear five-year research strategy, including collaborative opportunities and grant activity.

Teaching & Student Support

  • Deliver high-quality teaching in EU Law at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Provide expert supervision to doctoral researchers.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and innovation within EU Law and related fields.
  • Enhance the broader student learning experience through academic mentorship and pastoral support.

Leadership & Citizenship

  • Participate meaningfully in the day-to-day academic life of the School.
  • Contribute to academic leadership roles as appropriate.
  • Support strategic initiatives relating to teaching excellence, research development, and community engagement.

Candidate Profile

  • A recognised national and international reputation for excellence in EU Law scholarship.
  • A strong track record of high-quality research outputs.
  • Demonstrated expertise in EU Law with evidence of global research presence.
  • Proven ability to teach effectively at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Experience supervising PhD students.
  • Evidence of leadership within academic settings.
  • A well-articulated and robust multi-year research plan.
  • Commitment to contributing to the School’s collaborative and inclusive academic culture.
