Job Description
Role Overview
The School of Archaeology, Geography & Environmental Science at the University of Reading invites applications for a Post-Doctoral Research Assistant (PDRA) in Functional Biodiversity. This fixed-term, full-time role (up to 20 months) forms part of the LEMONTREE project (Land Ecosystem Models based On New Theory, observations and Experiments).
The PDRA will work alongside an international team, including collaborators at Imperial College London and Tsinghua University, to develop a theoretical framework linking functional biodiversity to environmental constraints. The role combines data analysis, theoretical modelling, and evaluation of biodiversity frameworks through field and laboratory experiments.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct statistical analysis of plant trait datasets to inform theoretical frameworks.
- Develop and refine an eco-evolutionary optimality (EEO) modelling framework for functional biodiversity.
- Evaluate and optimise model performance using experimental and observational data.
- Collaborate with project scientists and research teams across multiple institutions.
- Communicate research findings through reports, publications, and presentations.
- Manage workload independently, prioritising tasks to meet project milestones and deadlines.
Candidate Profile
- Education: PhD in Environmental Science or a closely related discipline by the start date.
- Research Expertise: Strong understanding of functional traits, biodiversity, and environmental drivers.
- Modelling Skills: Familiarity with eco-evolutionary optimality concepts and modelling techniques.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in programming, data management, and quantitative analysis.
- Experience: Previous research experience with a publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
- Personal Attributes: Proactive, self-motivated, and able to plan, prioritise, and manage multiple tasks effectively.
