Role Overview

The University of Reading is seeking a highly motivated Doctoral Training Administration Manager to coordinate and manage the Mathematics for Future Climate (MFC) PhD programme, a collaborative initiative with Imperial College London and the University of Southampton.

This role offers the opportunity to support cutting-edge doctoral research addressing climate change through advanced mathematical modelling. You will work closely with academics, PhD students, administrative teams, and external partners to ensure the smooth operation and continued growth of this prestigious programme.

Key Responsibilities

Programme Administration & Coordination

  • Lead operational management of the MFC PhD programme in consultation with Centre Directors and partner universities.
  • Organize and maintain records of student progress, academic milestones, and programme documentation.
  • Ensure timely communication with students, staff, and external collaborators.

Event & Project Management

  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver workshops, conferences, and training sessions.
  • Manage logistical arrangements, including venue bookings, virtual sessions, and catering.
  • Contribute to the development of new administrative processes to enhance programme efficiency.

Financial & Data Management

  • Monitor programme budgets and expenditure, ensuring alignment with funding requirements.
  • Prepare regular financial reports and forecasts.
  • Maintain accurate data records and performance metrics for reporting to stakeholders.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a central point of contact for students, faculty, and partner institutions.
  • Build effective working relationships across multiple teams and external organisations.
  • Support the implementation of strategic initiatives and programme evaluation metrics.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

  • Degree-level qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Strong experience in higher education administration, ideally within a research or doctoral programme.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven organisational and project management abilities to manage multiple priorities.
  • Competent in budget monitoring and financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in IT systems, with confidence in learning new platforms and software.
  • Experience in event management, including academic conferences and workshops.
  • Ability to work independently, proactively, and collaboratively within a small team.
  • Flexible approach, with availability on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, and occasional travel to partner institutions in London and Southampton.
