About the Opportunity

The University of Reading invites applications for two permanent Lecturer posts in Economics. These roles offer an excellent opportunity for early-career or developing academics to contribute to a vibrant teaching environment while building an internationally recognised research profile.

Based within the Department of Economics, you will play an active role in delivering undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, contributing to the Department’s research culture, and engaging with the University’s broader interdisciplinary community. While the roles are campus-based, the University supports flexible working arrangements, with an expectation of on-campus engagement for part of the working week.

About the Department

The Department of Economics sits within the School of Philosophy, Politics and Economics (SPPE), a school known for its strong interdisciplinary ethos and collaborative research culture. Economists at Reading work closely with colleagues across the University, contributing to research that addresses major global challenges.

We welcome applicants working in any field of economics, particularly those who can strengthen one or more of our established Research Clusters. We are especially keen to hear from candidates whose work aligns with the Climate and Environmental Economics Research Cluster, reflecting the University’s commitment to sustainability and evidence-based policy.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver high-quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes
  • Design and update course content that reflects current research and best practice
  • Develop and publish research in leading, peer-reviewed international journals
  • Contribute to research clusters, seminars, and collaborative projects
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students
  • Participate in academic citizenship and departmental activities

About You

We are looking for motivated academics with strong research potential and a commitment to excellent teaching. You will have:

  • A PhD in Economics or a closely related discipline
  • Publications in internationally recognised, peer-reviewed journals, with evidence of a developing publication pipeline
  • Demonstrated ability to teach across a range of undergraduate and/or postgraduate topics
  • A willingness to contribute to a collegial and inclusive academic environment
