Role Overview

Do you want to make a meaningful impact on the lives of British Armed Forces veterans and reservists? Op Courage – South East is a specialist mental health service supporting veterans across Kent, Surrey, and Sussex. We work holistically with those who have served in the armed forces, supporting their mental health, social needs, and overall wellbeing.

We are seeking experienced mental health practitioners, including Nurses, Social Workers, and Occupational Therapists, to join a passionate, collaborative team. You will support veterans with complex needs, some of whom may struggle to engage with traditional services, and help them access care without disadvantage due to their military background.

Key Responsibilities

1. Clinical Assessment & Case Management

  • Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments for veterans with complex needs
  • Manage a caseload, including case management and acting as lead professional when required
  • Provide psychoeducational interventions, coping strategies, and therapeutic support
  • Collaborate with carers, families, and other professionals to ensure holistic care

2. Community-Based Support

  • Deliver care and therapy across Sussex, with occasional travel to Surrey and Kent
  • Work in partnership with community mental health teams, crisis services, and charitable organisations
  • Develop and implement recovery plans that support veterans in leading fulfilling lives

3. Clinical Leadership & Supervision

  • Provide clinical supervision to junior staff and students
  • Lead on clinical initiatives aimed at improving veteran engagement and service access
  • Promote continual service improvement while adhering to clinical governance standards

4. Multidisciplinary Collaboration

  • Work alongside statutory and non-statutory agencies, including crisis teams, secondary care, and social services
  • Participate in partnership working, discharge planning, and care coordination
  • Ensure veteran care aligns with Care Programme Approach (CPA) processes

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse (Mental Health / Adult / Learning Disabilities), Social Worker, or Occupational Therapist with current UK registration
  • Completion of Mentorship Course / ENB equivalent
  • Evidence of continuous professional development
