Job Description
The opportunity
The University of Sussex is seeking a proactive and digitally confident Marketing Officer (Digital) to support undergraduate and postgraduate student recruitment. This role sits within the central Marketing Team in Communications, Engagement and Advancement (CEA) and plays a hands-on role in delivering well-planned, insight-led digital campaigns.
You will help translate recruitment priorities into effective digital activity across paid, owned and shared channels. Working collaboratively with colleagues across marketing, CRM, digital analytics, web and social media, you will support campaigns from concept through to delivery and evaluation, ensuring outputs are high quality, accessible and aligned with the University’s brand.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys combining creativity with data, takes pride in producing polished digital content, and is keen to build experience in a complex, purpose-driven organisation.
Key responsibilities
- Support the planning and delivery of digital marketing campaigns that contribute to student recruitment goals.
- Create, adapt and schedule digital content for use across websites, email, social media and paid channels.
- Coordinate campaign activity with internal colleagues and external suppliers or agencies.
- Monitor and report on campaign performance, using data and insights to support continuous improvement and value for money.
- Ensure all digital outputs are accurate, accessible and consistent with University brand and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to a collaborative team culture, sharing ideas and supporting colleagues during busy recruitment periods.
About you
You will bring experience of supporting or delivering digital marketing activity, with the confidence to write clear, engaging copy for different audiences and platforms. You are well organised, detail-focused and comfortable juggling multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.
You will be confident working with campaign data, using tools such as spreadsheets, analytics dashboards or third‑party reports to understand performance and identify opportunities to improve. You will also have basic digital design or editing skills, such as resizing images or creating simple assets using standard design tools, alongside an understanding of visual identity and brand consistency.
Experience in higher education or a similar sector is welcome but not essential. More important is your curiosity, willingness to learn and commitment to delivering high-quality digital work.
