Job Description

A Different Kind of Out-of-Hours Role

Are you a confident small animal vet who enjoys emergency work but doesn’t want it to take over your life? This is a rare opportunity to help relaunch and shape a small animal emergency service in one of Scotland’s most beautiful regions—while enjoying an exceptional work-life balance.

You’ll be joining a dedicated and community-focused team, providing essential out-of-hours care to pets when they need it most. This role suits a vet who is calm under pressure, confident working independently, and motivated by meaningful clinical impact rather than long, exhausting rotas.

The Role at a Glance

You’ll play a central role in delivering small animal emergency care, either:

  • From our well-equipped practice, or
  • On an on-call basis from home, or from comfortable accommodation provided during your working week
  • Your responsibilities will include emergency assessment, treatment, and decision-making, alongside clear communication with clients and local day practices.
  • This is a position with real autonomy, trust, and professional respect.

A Rota Designed Around Real Life

We believe excellent veterinary care starts with looking after our people. That’s why this role offers a one-week-on, three-weeks-off rota—giving you substantial downtime to rest, travel, or focus on personal priorities.

During your on-call week:

  • Monday – Thursday: 6:00pm – 8:00am
  • Friday 6:00pm – Monday 8:00am
  • No anticipated calls between 8:00am–12:00pm on Saturday, as this period is covered by the practice
  • A one-week-on, one-week-off option can also be discussed, with salary adjusted accordingly.

Why Join Us?

We are proud to support the Moray community, delivering accessible and compassionate veterinary care. Following successful investment in our large animal and equine out-of-hours services, we are now expanding our small animal emergency provision—and you’ll help shape how it develops.

Alongside a genuinely flexible rota, you’ll receive:

  • Salary up to £31,000 DOE (based on 1-in-4 rota)
  • Up to £7,500 relocation allowance
  • Visa sponsorship available for eligible overseas candidates
  • Accommodation provided during working weeks
  • Standard IVC benefits, with annual leave taken during off weeks

Life in Moray

Moray offers an outstanding quality of life. From the Cairngorms National Park to the Moray Firth coastline, the area is ideal for those who love the outdoors—hiking, wildlife watching, water sports, and exploring Scotland’s famous whisky trail.

  • It’s a welcoming, close-knit community where you can build both a career and a lifestyle.
  • Because Our People Truly Matter
  • We invest in our people, not just our premises. Alongside your salary, you’ll benefit from:

Work–Life Balance

  • 6.8 weeks annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays)
  • Additional paid birthday leave

Health & Wellbeing

  • Private Medical Insurance
  • 24/7 Employee Assistance Programme
