Full-time, 35 hours each week.

Fixed Term: 12 months

 

The Opportunity:

The University of Edinburgh’s School of Informatics seeks applications for a research associate job in the general area of data-driven networking.

The chosen candidate will work on industrially funded initiatives that aim to create and evaluate methods and systems for enabling data-driven networks. You will be expected to lead research on specific elements of these projects while also assisting with research student supervision, creating presentations and reports for deliverables, and developing related/follow-on initiatives. Candidates must hold a PhD (or be nearing completion) in computer science or a related subject. It is critical to exhibit excellent research experience by publishing in top-tier conferences or high-impact journals. We are searching for a highly driven candidate that takes initiative, is committed to quality, and can do world-class research in a collaborative context.

This position is marketed as full-time (35 hours per week); however, we are willing to accept part-time or flexible working arrangements. We are also willing to evaluate requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that includes both remote and on-campus work.

Your abilities and traits for success:

  • PhD (or near completion) in computer science or a similar discipline.

The following criteria are degree-based questions rather than yes/no statements. The recruitment process will try to pick applicants who perform best in all of these areas.

  • Excellent research track record as evidenced by papers at top-tier conferences or high-impact journals.
  • Strong experience conducting research in one or more of the following areas: Data-driven network monitoring, automation, and optimisation approaches, cloud service assurance, traffic engineering, and software-defined networking; Wireless and mobile networking; deep learning; network data analysis and modelling; synthetic data generation; networked system design and experimental assessment; O-RAN architecture and use cases; edge computing; network measurement; and network security.
  • Ability to explain difficult material clearly, both vocally and in writing.
  • Possess a high level of initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to operate well in a team environment.
  • Preferably, familiarity in research student supervision and grant writing.
