Job Description
This is a Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Midwife position (Band 7) within the Women’s and Children’s Directorate at Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust (RCHT).
In this vital role, you’ll focus on delivering exceptional, compassionate midwifery care to pregnant women and birthing people facing moderate to severe mental health challenges, alongside complex social disadvantages or other vulnerabilities. Your work spans from pregnancy through the postnatal period, extending support to their families where needed.
You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams—including the woman’s primary midwife and the Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Team to provide tailored, expert-led care. Drawing on your advanced knowledge and skills, you’ll manage a dedicated caseload, lead on care planning, and ensure a truly holistic approach that addresses physical health, mental wellbeing, and social needs across various settings.
The service takes a strong public health perspective, actively working to reduce health inequalities by considering the broader social determinants of health and tackling severe and multiple disadvantages. You’ll connect with a network of partner agencies, including those specialising in perinatal mental health, domestic violence support, substance misuse (drugs and alcohol), and learning disabilities services, to deliver integrated, comprehensive care packages.
