Senior Technician – Scottish Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence
Salary: Grade 7, £41,064 – £46,049 per annum
Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week
Contract: Open-ended, with funding for up to 24 months in the first instance (possible extension for a further 24 months following mid-term review)
Location: University of Glasgow, Wolfson Wohl Cancer Research Centre / CRUK Scotland Institute
About the Role
This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced technician to take a leading role in the Scottish Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence. The successful candidate will manage and deliver both in vitro and in vivo glioma services and experiments, working alongside internationally recognised scientists, including group leaders, post-doctoral researchers, and postgraduate students.
Your work will contribute to designing and delivering high-quality experiments aimed at advancing treatments for glioblastoma and other brain tumours. You will also oversee the organisation of laboratory space, equipment, and consumables, while providing senior technical leadership, training, and operational management.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the management and daily operations of the laboratory, including health and safety compliance, technical support, and staff management.
- Design, deliver, and optimise preclinical glioma models to evaluate novel treatment strategies.
- Train, advise, and supervise service users and students in technical and research skills.
- Oversee financial management, procurement, resource allocation, and grant monitoring.
- Contribute to publications, conferences, and collaborative projects that enhance the University’s research profile.
- Maintain accurate records, analyse and interpret experimental data, and troubleshoot technical challenges.

About You
Essential qualifications and skills:
- Degree-level qualification (or equivalent) with substantial experience in preclinical cancer or neuroscience research.
- Recognised expertise in establishing and using in vitro and in vivo cancer models.
- Up-to-date knowledge of relevant legislation, including health and safety.
- Strong analytical, IT, and problem-solving skills.
- Proven ability to manage people, budgets, and laboratory operations effectively.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Desirable:
- PhD or higher degree in a relevant discipline.
- Experience with rodent intracranial brain tumour models.
