Shape the Future of Mental Health Care in Acute Settings

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Mental Health Nurse to play a leading role in the development and implementation of Cambridge University Hospitals’ mental health strategy. This is a unique opportunity to combine clinical leadership with service transformation, enhancing the quality and integration of mental health care in a leading acute hospital.

About the Role

In this influential role, you will embed mental health expertise across hospital services, ensuring the delivery of safe, compassionate, and holistic care to patients with mental health needs. You’ll act as a visible presence throughout the Trust, supporting staff with patient management and promoting excellence in mental health care.

You’ll also contribute significantly to staff development, delivering regular training and co-developing CUH’s mental health education programme—empowering clinical teams with the knowledge and confidence to manage mental health challenges.

While this role does not typically include routine weekend shifts, occasional support during high-demand periods may be requested, for which unsocial hours pay applies. Optional weekend bank shifts may also be available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice to hospital staff on the care of patients with mental health conditions.
  • Act as a trusted, visible clinical leader across departments.
  • Lead and contribute to multidisciplinary discussions and care planning.
  • Support collaborative working across CUH and with external mental health services.
  • Co-develop and deliver the mental health education and training programme for staff.
  • Drive service improvements in line with national mental health policy, including the NHS 10-Year Plan.
  • Facilitate safe and appropriate care transitions in collaboration with mental health partners.

About You

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • NMC registration as a Mental Health Nurse (RMN)
  • Demonstrated experience in mental health service improvement
  • Strong collaborative working skills with a wide range of professionals and services
  • Confidence delivering training and clinical education
  • A passion for embedding mental health best practices in acute healthcare environments
