Job Description

Join Our Team as a Research Fellow (Mental Health)

Would you like to collaborate with world-renowned experts in applied health and care research and help integrate this work into undergraduate and postgraduate education? Are you ready to take the next step in your career at one of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities?

We are seeking a Research Fellow in Mental Health to contribute to the #StaffedWards project, a 30-month study examining incidents and staffing within adult acute mental health wards. You’ll join the School of Healthcare—a vibrant, multidisciplinary research community committed to enhancing the wellbeing of people using and delivering health and social care services. Our work also supports research-informed education across all levels.

As part of our Quality and Safety research theme, you will engage in impactful, interdisciplinary research that improves the delivery, safety, and quality of health and care services. Our focus is on addressing real-world challenges that matter to patients, families, professionals, educators, and policy makers.

What We’re Looking For
You’ll hold a postgraduate qualification and ideally a PhD (or be close to completion), or a Master’s degree with equivalent research experience in a related field. Experience in a relevant healthcare setting is essential. Prior involvement in teaching or supervising students at undergraduate or postgraduate level is highly desirable.

What We Offer

Generous Holiday Allowance: 26 days annual leave plus approximately 16 additional days when the University is closed (including the Christmas break) – a total of around 42 days off per year.

Pension & Life Assurance: University contribution of 14.5% of salary.

Health & Wellbeing: Discounted membership at The Edge, our cutting-edge campus fitness facility, including a pool, sauna, climbing wall, and more.

Learning & Development: Access to professional courses through our Organisational Development & Professional Learning team, plus optional self-development opportunities such as language classes, creative writing, and wellbeing therapies.

Additional Perks: On-site childcare, retail discounts, and travel schemes.

If you’re seeking a role that will grow your skills as both a researcher and educator, all while working within a supportive and collaborative team—this could be the opportunity for you.
