Aston University is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Applied Mathematics within the Department of Mechatronics and Biomedical Engineering. We are looking for candidates who are research active and have a strong interest in data-driven mathematical modelling in areas such as drone and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) control, navigation, remote sensing, multi-vehicle mission planning, energy, transport, manufacturing, fluid dynamics, biomedical mechatronic systems, or financial mathematics.
Applicants should have a student-focused approach to teaching, with experience and enthusiasm for lecturing in subjects such as probability and statistics, financial mathematics, and applied and computational mathematics.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A first degree in Mathematics and a PhD in Mathematics or a related discipline.
- A formal teaching qualification (e.g., PGCHE) or be willing to work towards achieving FHEA or higher.
- Familiarity with virtual learning environment (VLE) software such as Blackboard or Moodle is desirable.
As a successful candidate, you will be responsible for developing teaching materials, delivering lectures and tutorials, and assessing students across a range of formats, including individual projects. A proven track record in teaching, with positive student feedback, is essential.
In addition to teaching responsibilities, you will play a key role in the Department’s operation, including acting as a personal tutor, participating in open days, and engaging in outreach activities. There will also be opportunities for involvement in leadership roles within the Department where appropriate.
