About This Role

Ormiston Horizon Academy (OHA) is an ambitious school dedicated to the heart of its community. We strive to provide a first-class education to all learners, with students, staff, families, and governors working together to make our vision a reality: to offer an inspirational learning journey that enables students to achieve beyond their horizons.

As a teacher at OHA, you will collaborate closely with the Principal and Senior Leadership Team to ensure the academy’s aims are met. You will also have responsibility for promoting the ethos and culture of the Academy while supporting its daily operations, including taking registers, handling administrative duties, and managing student behavior.

Teachers will be given opportunities to engage with colleagues at other Ormiston Academies, fostering strategic development, sharing best practices, and planning collaborative initiatives. You will also benefit from a robust CPD programme, both internally and externally.

In addition to teaching responsibilities, all teachers will take on Personal Tutor duties. Personal Tutors manage the pastoral and academic welfare of their tutor group, acting as the primary contact for students, parents/carers, and subject staff. Training and support will be provided for this role.

At OHA, we prioritize work-life balance and staff wellbeing. “Wellbeing Wednesdays” allow team members to finish early on the last Wednesday of each term. Leadership values open communication, staff and student voice, and supports time off for training or personal events. Career development is central to our mission, and we offer a supportive environment to foster your growth.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (ECTs welcome)
  • Knowledge of the National Curriculum requirements at KS3 and KS4
  • Understanding of safeguarding children and young people
  • A commitment to fostering young person participation

The Successful Candidate Will Be:

  • Open and honest
  • Receptive to change
  • Creative, reflective, and analytical
  • Aware of the importance of work/life balance
  • Possessing a sense of humor
  • Willing to go the extra mile for colleagues and students

Joining us means becoming part of Ormiston Academies Trust, a national network that aims to create a school system where every child thrives, regardless of their background. Our greatest asset is our people, and your work will have purpose and meaning.

At Ormiston, we offer:

  • The opportunity to build on the legacy of those who came before, as part of one of the longest-standing Trusts
  • A rewarding and challenging career in an environment nationally recognized for its impact on disadvantaged children
  • A well-resourced, ambitious, and supportive team in your community
  • Professional growth with a comprehensive development programme and flexible working arrangements
