Job Description and Responsibilities

Care Provision: Develop and deliver care programs for women and their babies under the supervision of midwives, ensuring they are tailored to the needs, contexts, cultures, and choices of the families.

Collaboration: Work in partnership with the multidisciplinary team and women to provide ethical, evidence-based care. Involve other practitioners when it benefits health outcomes.

Monitoring: Care for and monitor women during the puerperium, offering evidence-based advice and support on baby and self-care across antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal periods.

Care Delivery: Provide seamless care and interventions during the antenatal period, ensuring they meet women’s assessed needs, contexts, and cultures, and are evidence-based and aligned with risk management strategies.

Referrals: Refer women to specialists when necessary, providing accurate, legible, and complete information on the referral, including the rationale and the women’s needs and preferences.

Academic Work: Attend university theory classes and complete academic assignments.

Education/Qualifications

Essential: Minimum of 5 GCSEs including English and Maths or IELTS 7.0; Diploma/Degree in Adult Nursing; proven post-registration experience.

Desirable: Completion of a Research Awareness course.

Skills and Abilities

Essential: IT skills, application of theory to practice, ability to work in a multicultural environment, forward-thinking approach, effective listening, strong verbal and written communication.

Desirable: Reflective practice.

Knowledge

Essential: Up-to-date knowledge of professional midwifery issues, ability to prioritize care, understanding of audit and evidence-based practice, familiarity with inter-agency working (e.g., Child Protection and Domestic Violence).

Desirable: Knowledge of Trust’s Policies and Procedures.

Experience

Essential: Experience in various settings utilizing a range of skills or transferable skills.

Desirable: Additional experience in diverse settings.

Additional Information

Apprenticeship Training: This role may be part of an apprenticeship program.
