Job Description

Senior Research Manager – Breast Radiotherapy Unit

Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), London
Based in Sutton |  35 hours/week |  Closing date: 15 June 2025

About the Role

We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Research Manager to support the development and delivery of cutting-edge research within the Breast Radiotherapy Unit, led by Dr Navita Somaiah. In this key role, you’ll be instrumental in shaping research protocols, supporting grant applications, and ensuring the regulatory compliance of clinical and translational trials.

This position is offered as a 24-month fixed-term contract, with the possibility of extension. While the post is full-time, applications for part-time work will be considered individually.

This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience in oncology or radiotherapy trials, who thrives in a dynamic research environment and is keen to make a real impact on cancer treatment outcomes.

Who You’ll Work With

You’ll be joining the Translational Breast Radiobiology Group, under Dr Somaiah’s leadership—a team focused on enhancing radiotherapy outcomes through more personalised, biologically targeted treatments. The group leads several national and international Phase I/II clinical trials and collaborates with researchers and clinicians across the UK and beyond.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of clinical trial protocols and research funding applications.
  • Coordinate and manage clinical and translational research activities.
  • Navigate regulatory and governance frameworks to ensure full compliance (e.g. ICH-GCP, UK clinical trial regulations).
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams including oncologists, radiologists, data managers, and research scientists.
  • Monitor project timelines and ensure smooth trial operations.

What We’re Looking For

  •  Proven experience in oncology, radiotherapy trials, or oncology data management.
  •  Solid understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and UK research governance standards.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills in a research or clinical setting.
  •  Excellent communication and team collaboration abilities.
  •  Adaptability to work in a fast-paced clinical research environment.
