The Opportunity
We are looking for a skilled and experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join the University of Liverpool—one of the UK’s prestigious Russell Group universities, serving over 22,000 students and supported by more than 6,000 academic and professional staff.
In this key role, you will be part of the Engineering Services Group, reporting to the Senior Mechanical Engineer and working under the leadership of the Head of Engineering Services within the Estates Management Team.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical oversight and support for construction and maintenance projects across the University’s estate.
Work closely with Facilities, Residential and Commercial Services (FRCS), Capital and Minor Works teams, consultants, and contractors to ensure project success.
Ensure that all projects are delivered to the required quality standards, within agreed budgets and timelines, and in compliance with University health and safety policies.
Monitor and audit maintenance works completed by the University’s Measured Term Contractor to ensure compliance with technical and quality specifications.
Support the commissioning and handover process in collaboration with Project Managers, Building and Quantity Surveyors, ensuring new or refurbished facilities are fit for purpose at handover.
About You
You should hold a recognised qualification in Mechanical Services (e.g., NVQ Level 4, HNC, or equivalent).
Proven experience managing or supporting mechanical engineering projects in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively across departments and with external contractors.
A proactive approach to health, safety, and compliance, with a focus on delivering quality outcomes.
