About the Role
As a Software Certification Engineer, you will lead software certification activities across Aviation Systems projects and products—including power generation, cockpit displays, navigation, sensors, computing, ignition systems, propellers, and more. You’ll be responsible for developing certification strategies, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting certification audits. You’ll play a key role in enabling our civil and military technologies, including the development of hybrid-electric aircraft and open platform systems.
This is a strategic, technically-focused role where your expertise will influence project direction and support the development of others through coaching and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and lead product certification strategies and determine the certification basis.
- Plan and manage compliance efforts, including identifying means of compliance.
- Contribute to cohesive, efficient project planning and execution.
- Review development artifacts and verify certification readiness.
- Conduct internal and external audit pre-assessments.
- Audit project artifacts and verification activities for regulatory compliance.
- Support audits by regulatory authorities and customer airworthiness representatives.
- Collaborate with cross-functional project teams to resolve audit findings and observations.
- Engage in industry working groups and represent GE in collaborative initiatives.
- Mentor and support the development of less experienced engineers.
- Lead training initiatives to enhance certification knowledge across the team.
- Provide technical leadership on assigned projects.
Required Qualifications
- Extensive experience in software development or certification under RTCA/DO-178B or DO-178C.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve compliance with certification regulations.
- Degree in Electronic, Software, or Real-Time Systems Engineering (not IT-focused) or equivalent experience.
