About the Role

We are seeking an experienced fire safety professional to join the University’s Health and Safety Team. You’ll be part of a dedicated group of health, safety, and fire professionals committed to embedding and advancing a positive safety culture across UWE Bristol.

As Fire Safety Adviser, you will take the lead in managing fire safety across the University. This is a high-profile and essential role, responsible for:

Acting as the University’s competent fire safety person

Developing and maintaining the University’s Fire Safety Management System

Managing the Fire Risk Assessment programme

Advising on fire safety aspects of new builds, refurbishments, and capital projects

Conducting audits to monitor compliance and performance

Designing and delivering fire safety training

Being the principal point of contact for all fire safety matters

You’ll work closely with teams across the University, with particular engagement with the Estates team and other professional services and academic colleges.

About You

This opportunity is ideal for a proactive and knowledgeable fire safety professional looking to make a significant impact in a large, dynamic organisation. You’ll need:

Significant experience in fire safety within complex UK-based organisations

A solid understanding of fire safety risks, regulations, and best practice

A Level 4 qualification in Fire Safety (e.g., IFE or equivalent), or be working towards it

Membership (or working towards membership) of a relevant professional body such as the IFE

Proven experience in developing and delivering fire risk assessments, training, audits, and supporting major projects

Strong IT skills, especially in Microsoft Word and Excel, with the ability to analyse and present data effectively

A pragmatic, customer-focused approach and the ability to work independently while collaborating across departments are key to success in this role.
