Position Overview

The Department of Geography at Royal Holloway, University of London is seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Lecturer in Human Geography. This is a full-time, fixed-term position for 12 months, focused primarily on teaching. The successful candidate will contribute to our well-regarded Human Geography program, particularly in the areas of Political Geography and Urban Studies, as well as provide academic support to undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The Department of Geography at Royal Holloway has a strong community ethos and a reputation for mentoring and academic support. Key Areas of Research & Teaching

You will engage with the department’s Social, Cultural and Historical Geography Group (SCHG) and/or the Geopolitics, Development, Security, and Justice Group (GDSJ). These groups have played a pivotal role in shaping the discipline in the UK and work across diverse themes, such as:

  • Place, landscape, and mobility
  • Creative and collaborative geographies
  • Transnational material cultures
  • Political geography, cities, and development
  • Visual cultures, sacred spaces, and multiculturalism
  • Geopolitics, international relations, and security

We are looking for an individual who can contribute to second-year teaching (specifically GG2052 Political Geography and GG2053 Cities) and postgraduate teaching on our MRes programmes. Additionally, the role includes participation in the first-year tutorial program, as well as undergraduate and postgraduate dissertation supervision.

The Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone with expertise in Human Geography, particularly in the areas of political geography and urban studies. Experience in teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels is essential, and a passion for delivering high-quality education is a must. The successful candidate will be committed to fostering a supportive and stimulating learning environment for students and will engage in innovative teaching methods that inspire students.
