JOB SUMMARY

 

We are looking for an experienced senior Electrical and Electronics Engineer to work in our aerospace Advanced Technology Organisation (ATO). You will take the lead in defining the business’s next generation of goods. You will be responsible for the hardware parts of prototypes, helping project teams through the idea development and prototype design phases, as well as assisting with the transfer to production. The position will demand you to understand the aerospace market and collaborate with technical, business, and strategy executives to find market opportunities and create and validate innovative product concepts. It will also require you to gain a thorough technical understanding of the design of electrical equipment for aviation usage. This position is ideal for a free-thinking, practical problem solver who enjoys inventing high-quality, cost-effective new goods. A minimum of five years of postgraduate experience is necessary.

Job Description.

Bishops Cleeve’s ATO oversees the development of a wide range of Power and Avionics products and technology. GE Aerospace is involved in aeroplane electrification research and is creating high-voltage, high-power systems with lab safety as a priority. The selected candidate will be assigned to projects based on their expertise and may expect to work on a variety of products and technologies throughout their career.

This is a multifaceted role with a high level of autonomy, however the primary competencies we are looking for are in the design, analysis, and verification of requirements for power electronics hardware in an R&D environment. The position requires regular communication with systems engineering, embedded software development, mechanical design, and testing divisions.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Lead the creation of product hardware concepts and needs, taking into account the system requirements, market, business case, and product life cycle.
  • Lead the design of prototype product hardware architecture in collaboration with the systems, software, mechanical, and tooling teams.
  • Have, or be willing to learn, a thorough understanding of aircraft electrical power and avionics systems, including electric and hybrid cars.
  • Give an overview of current technology.
  • Collaborate with our customers to generate concepts for their next aircraft, including technical proposals.
  • Collaborate across the organisation to ensure successful research initiatives.
  • Work with the ATO solution architect to establish a consistent approach across projects.
  • Define and coordinate functional, EMC, and environmental testing on prototype equipment to meet applicable requirements and uncover flaws or deficiencies.
  • Set a good example for others by following best practices in safety.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers to improve the overall capabilities of the ATO team.
  • The position will need some level of local and international travel.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum qualification: a degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering or science area.
  • Desirable: PhD in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of five years of experience as an Electrical/Electronic Engineer in aerospace, automotive, industrial, or academic settings.
  • Good understanding of electrical power systems and vehicle systems.
  • Detailed understanding of industry-standard tools such as DOORS, SIMetrix simulation, PLECS simulation, and Mentor Graphic schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Experience working safely in lab environments, ideally with high voltage.
  • Experience with lab test equipment and measuring techniques (DMM, Scopes, PSUs, and Load Banks).
  • Successfully led complicated projects and/or technical teams.

  • Experience in designing and developing safety-critical equipment.
  • Exceptional design skills, including the capacity to resolve multivariable, multidomain trade studies to optimise designs.
  • Strong analogue electronics design background.
  • Working knowledge of model-based development.

  • The ability to communicate with customers, suppliers, and partners at all levels of business.
  • The capacity to create clear reports, documentation, and trade studies
