Job Description

Job Title: Nursing Team Leader – Emergency Department

The post holder will play a vital role in assisting the Lead Nursing Team in overseeing the nursing staff across a 24-hour period.

As an experienced nurse, the post holder will coordinate departmental activities, ensuring effective communication is maintained at all times while providing support to both qualified and unqualified staff within the Emergency Department (ED). The role will involve playing a key part in assessing patient care needs and in the development, implementation, and evaluation of care programs.

The post holder will serve as a role model, promoting evidence-based practice, developing the nursing team, and ensuring effective department management in the absence of the Lead Nurse. They will also foster an environment of empowerment through coaching, teaching, and facilitating service development.

Key Responsibilities:

The post holder will work within the Emergency Department, with the possibility of cross-site assignments.

Support the Lead Nurse in the daily management of the nursing team and support staff, ensuring the smooth operation of the ED on each shift.

In collaboration with a Senior Sister/Charge Nurse, take responsibility for the ongoing development of the nursing team. This includes working closely with a wide range of professionals, including medical, nursing, and management colleagues.

If qualifications and competencies are met, undertake the role of an Emergency Nurse Practitioner.
