Join our award-winning Careers & Employability team at the University of Reading as a Careers Consultant. We’re looking for someone with a background in higher education careers advising, HR or recruitment, or substantial experience managing and developing early career talent.

About the Role

As a Careers Consultant, you will play a vital role in improving the employability and career outcomes of our students. Working in partnership with academic departments, you’ll integrate employability into the curriculum and lead a specialist consultancy project—this could include themes such as international student support or diversity and inclusion.

You’ll also leverage technology to deliver impactful careers education and one-to-one coaching, using data and labour market insights to shape effective strategies and services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert careers guidance, labour market insight, and tailored coaching to students.
  • Collaborate with academic teams to embed employability across programmes.
  • Manage a student caseload and deliver career development workshops and seminars.
  • Lead on a specialist project, setting objectives and ensuring timely delivery.
  • Stay current with graduate recruitment trends and participate in ongoing CPD.

What We’re Looking For

  • A degree or equivalent qualification.
  • A relevant professional qualification (or working towards) in careers guidance, coaching, HR, or similar.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and data presentation skills.
  • Experience working with a wide range of stakeholders and influencing at different levels.
  • Proven project management skills and the ability to balance competing priorities.
  • Confidence in delivering sessions to both large and small audiences.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of UK graduate recruitment and labour market trends.
