Job Description
Role Summary
The University is seeking a highly skilled Student Casework Manager (SCM) to jointly oversee the provision of casework relating to student complaints, disciplinary matters, and criminal conviction assessments. Working alongside an established SCM, you will ensure cases are handled promptly, compassionately, and in line with institutional policy and national regulatory expectations.
You will take a lead role in managing complex, sensitive, and high-risk cases, including those involving allegations of sexual misconduct, ensuring decisions are fair, proportionate, and legally sound. This includes preparing and clerking Misconduct Panels, advising senior decision makers, and ensuring that the University’s approach aligns with current sector standards, including guidance from the Office of the Independent Adjudicator (OIA).
A core responsibility will be acting as the institution’s contact point for OIA liaison, helping assess organisational risk, and ensuring high-quality, defensible responses to external complaints.
The role also supports the ongoing development of case-management practices, training resources, and policy improvements, ensuring institutional compliance with national frameworks and safeguarding responsibilities.

- Maintain oversight of timescales and communication standards to provide a fair and supportive experience for students.
2. Leading Complex and High-Risk Investigations
- Manage sensitive matters including sexual misconduct, intimidation, harassment, and serious disciplinary breaches.
- Provide clear, trauma-informed guidance throughout the process, supporting students and staff engaging with emotionally challenging cases.
3. Conducting Hearings & Advising Decision-Makers
- Clerk Misconduct Panels, ensuring hearings are procedurally robust and well-documented.
- Advise senior leaders to ensure decisions are legally defensible, proportionate, and in alignment with national guidance.
4. Acting as Institutional Contact for External Review Bodies
- Prepare evidence and responses for OIA cases, ensuring submissions are rigorous and reflect sector best practice.
- Monitor risks and escalation points, providing high-level advice to senior staff.
5. Improving Systems, Policy & Training
- Contribute to continuous improvement of internal casework processes, documentation, and staff training.
- Stay informed on national developments relating to safeguarding, student conduct, trauma-informed practice, and HE regulations.
6. Cross-University Collaboration
- Work closely with Academic Faculties and Professional Services teams including Academic Quality, Student Wellbeing, and Advice & Guidance.
- Prioritise student-centred decision making and risk management.
About You
You will bring:
- Experience handling complex investigations with a trauma-informed, student-focused approach.
- The ability to remain composed, objective, and professional when working with emotionally distressing content.
- Strong knowledge of complaints, conduct, safeguarding, or criminal justice processes.
- Excellent communication and the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
- Demonstrable commitment to embedding equality, diversity, and inclusion within your professional practice.
