Role Overview
The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre (CCC) is recruiting a dedicated, compassionate and motivated Staff Nurse to join the Outpatients Department based at Aintree, with planned cross-cover at Liverpool, Paddington and Wirral sites. This post offers the opportunity to play a key role in supporting specialist cancer outpatient services for patients across Cheshire, Merseyside and surrounding regions.
This is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week), Monday to Friday, including bank holidays. You will be supported through a structured induction, eLearning, mentorship and access to a wide range of training opportunities to enhance your clinical confidence and professional development.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Treatment
- Provide high-quality nursing care within outpatient clinics across all designated sites
- Support Consultants, Allied Health Professionals and wider MDT colleagues delivering specialist services
- Undertake triage, patient assessment and early recognition of deterioration
- Provide wound care as required and escalate concerns appropriately
- Deliver hands-on care including observations, urinalysis, blood glucose monitoring and ECGs
- Perform phlebotomy and assist with the management of PICC lines and Ports
- Support acutely unwell patients awaiting transfer to external services
Clinic Operations
- Assist in coordinating daily outpatient activity, ensuring safe and effective clinic flow
- Prepare clinic rooms, equipment and documentation before sessions
- Work collaboratively with administrative and clinical staff to minimise delays and support patient experience
- In the absence of senior staff, provide leadership for the team and respond to staff or patient queries
Patient Support & Communication
- Offer emotional reassurance to patients and families throughout their visit
- Use clear, compassionate communication to explain procedures, treatment plans and next steps
- Uphold confidentiality and demonstrate sensitivity in all interactions
- Promote a positive, inclusive and kind environment aligned with Trust values
Record-Keeping & Safety
- Maintain accurate, timely and professional documentation

Essential
- Registered Nurse – current NMC registration
- Evidence of ongoing professional development
- Valid NMC PIN

- Degree in Nursing or working towards it
- Student Nurse Assessor qualification
- Communication or clinical skills course completion
Knowledge & Experience

- Previous experience in a nursing role
- Ability to work effectively within a team

- Experience working with deteriorating or acutely unwell patients
- Oncology knowledge or previous cancer care involvement
