About Rare Dementia Support

Rare Dementia Support (RDS) is a UCL-led collaborative service delivering specialist social, emotional, and practical support to individuals living with, or affected by, rare forms of dementia. Hosted by the UCL Dementia Research Centre (DRC) within the Department of Neurodegenerative Disease, RDS provides tailored information, guidance, and peer support for individuals, families, and carers.

Our vision is for everyone affected by rare dementia to access relevant advice, support networks, and community engagement opportunities.

Role Overview

The Operations Manager will oversee the day-to-day running of the new Rare Dementia Support Centre (RDSC), ensuring smooth operational, facilities, and health & safety management. Reporting to the Centre Director, Professor Sebastian Crutch, the role works closely with the RDSC Executive Team, including the Head of Support Services and Governance Lead.

This on-site position is funded by a UCLH Charity donation and plays a key role in delivering high-quality services and supporting research engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Centre Operations: Oversee the efficient day-to-day running of the RDSC, including space, resources, and health & safety compliance.
  • Facilities & Safety Management: Maintain compliance with UCL estates, facilities, and health & safety policies. Health & Safety Executive
  • Event & Volunteer Management: Organise workshops, support sessions, and training events; manage volunteer coordination.
  • Team Collaboration: Work alongside the Centre Director, Governance Lead, and wider RDS team to implement strategic initiatives.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain relationships with UCL, NHS, charitable partners, and community organisations. UK Government Charity Guidance
  • Administrative Oversight: Ensure robust processes for reporting, scheduling, and operational governance.

Person Specification

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in facilities and health & safety management, ideally within community or charitable organisations.
  • Experience of volunteer management and event organisation.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work with attention to detail, and align with the vision and mission of RDS.
  • Ability to support diverse stakeholders and foster an inclusive environment.
