Job Description

Join QEF — Empowering Greater Independence

At Queen Elizabeth’s Foundation for Disabled People (QEF), we believe that mobility is the key to independence. Based in Surrey, our charity supports over 10,000 disabled children and adults each year — from those regaining independence after a stroke or injury to individuals seeking expert mobility and driving support.

We are now looking for a motivated Occupational Therapist to join our Mobility Services Team, one of the UK’s leading mobility assessment providers officially endorsed by the Department for Transport (DfT).

This position is not part of the NHS Agenda for Change and offers a fixed, competitive salary.

 About the Role

As an Occupational Therapist within our Mobility Services team, you will provide life-changing assessment and rehabilitation services for clients whose mobility is affected by disability, age, or illness.

You’ll collaborate closely with driving assessors, physiotherapists, and other clinicians to help clients across the South of England make informed, safe, and independent mobility choices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct driving assessments, including physical, cognitive, and visual screening.
  • Carry out passenger and mobility evaluations to reduce manual handling risks.
  • Recommend and trial wheelchairs, scooters, and vehicle adaptations tailored to client needs.
  • Provide posture and seating assessments to enhance comfort and pressure care.
  • Offer clinical input for learners in our Driving School (theory and in-car support).
  • Maintain detailed client records and contribute to service development initiatives.

About You

We’re seeking a professional who combines clinical expertise with a person-centred approach to assessment and rehabilitation.

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Occupational Therapist, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • Membership of the British Association or Royal College of Occupational Therapists (BAOT/RCOT).
  • Strong understanding of medical conditions affecting mobility, driving, and daily function.
  • Experience in posture management, manual handling, and adaptive equipment use.
  • Excellent communication, observation, and report-writing skills.
  • A collaborative and proactive team player who shares QEF’s values of inclusion, respect, and empowerment.

 What We Offer

At QEF, we invest in our people. You’ll enjoy:

  • 25 days’ annual leave (plus bank holidays), increasing with service.
  • Pension and life assurance (4x basic salary).
  • Access to Westfield Health cashback scheme and retail discounts.
  • Continuous professional development (CPD) and funded training opportunities.
  • Free on-site parking and use of our accessible facilities.
  • Blue Light Card eligibility for national discounts.
  • Inclusive, supportive working culture where every voice matters.

 Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

QEF is a proud Disability Confident Employer and an equal opportunities organisation.

We:

  • Guarantee an interview to all disabled applicants who meet the essential criteria.
  • Assess all candidates based on skills, experience, and ability.
  • Offer reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment and employment process.
