About the Role

As an Operational Compliance Officer, you will work as part of the Regional Support Unit (RSU) in the South West region. You will support data quality and compliance activities across courts and tribunals, ensuring accurate reporting and helping to embed effective compliance practices across the organisation.

You will provide analytical and administrative support to the Regional Performance Lead, helping identify trends, support front-line staff, and improve the quality of data used in decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor completion of data quality and compliance activity reports (weekly, monthly, and quarterly).
  • Develop and maintain a virtual network of front-line staff responsible for compliance and reporting.
  • Provide guidance, direction, and issue resolution support to these staff.
  • Produce management information (MI) and analytical insights for the Regional Performance Lead.
  • Identify trends, escalate key findings, and recommend actions for improvement.
  • Liaise with Compliance and Data Quality Support Officers to respond to regional queries.
  • Provide advice on compliance and data quality matters, escalating where appropriate.
  • Line-manage a small team of Administrative Officers (for Magistrates’ Court-based posts only).

There are four vacancies available across the South West region:

  • Gloucester Crown Court

Magistrates’ Court-based post (1 role):

Portsmouth, Southampton, Isle of Wight, Basingstoke, Aldershot, Bournemouth, Swindon, Salisbury, Weymouth, Exeter, Barnstaple, Plymouth, Bodmin, Bristol, Gloucester, Taunton, Bath, or North Somerset Magistrates’ Courts.

You will be asked to list your top three location preferences on application. Appointments will be made in merit order and based on these preferences.

A 12-month reserve list will be maintained for each location. Candidates who meet the required benchmark may be offered a position later from the reserve list.

Working Arrangements

  • Hybrid working: Minimum of 60% of working time to be spent in an office (subject to local capacity).
  • Travel: Occasional travel across the region may be required.
  • Working hours: Full-time (37 hours per week).
  • Hybrid working arrangements will be agreed upon appointment and reviewed regularly.

  • This vacancy is only open to existing Civil Servants or employees of accredited non-departmental public bodies (NDPBs) who:
  • Were appointed through fair and open competition, or
  • Hold a permanent appointment via an approved Civil Service Commissioners’ exception.

This role does not meet the criteria for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship under current immigration rules (as of July 2025). Applicants must already have the legal right to live and work in the UK.
