About the Programme

The Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust is offering a high-quality Core Surgical Training (CST) equivalent rotational programme, designed for doctors who have successfully completed FY2 and are seeking structured surgical experience before applying for national specialty training.

This programme provides a supported, educationally robust pathway for doctors looking to strengthen their surgical competencies, enhance their portfolio, and gain eligibility for a Certificate of Equivalence of Core Training, enabling progression to ST3 and higher specialty training in surgery.

Training & Career Development

  • Appointment at CT1 level, with the possibility of progressing to CT2 following a satisfactory ARCP

Clinical Responsibilities

You will work on a full shift rota, supporting consultant-led services and gaining broad surgical exposure. Your duties will include:

  • Participating in consultant-led ward rounds
  • Assisting in theatre alongside consultants and senior trainees
  • Delivering pre-operative and post-operative patient care

Attending outpatient clinics

  • Managing referrals and assessments in the Emergency Department
  • Engaging in weekly departmental teaching sessions
  • Undertaking continuing professional development and study leave in line with Trust policy

Essential Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet all of the following by the start date:

  • Full GMC registration
  • Primary medical qualification (MBBS, BMBS, or equivalent)
  • Foundation Programme Certificate of Completion (FPCC) or a completed CREST form
  • No more than 12 months’ post-foundation experience, including:
  • At least 6 months working in the NHS (paid clinical roles only)
  • CREST guidance (UK Government)
  • GMC registration guidance
