Specialist Nurse (Development Role) – Bladder & Bowel Service
Location: Southampton, Hampshire
Hours: 22.5 hours per week (Band 5 development role, progressing to Band 6 upon completion of competencies)
Service Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:30 – 16:30 (excluding bank holidays)

We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join our dynamic Bladder & Bowel team in a structured development role, with the potential to progress to a Band 6 Specialist Nurse post upon successful completion of competencies within 6–12 months.
About the Role
This is a unique development post designed to support a Band 5 nurse with a passion for continence and pelvic health to advance their clinical, leadership, and specialist skills. You’ll be part of a dedicated team offering assessment and treatment to patients experiencing bladder and bowel dysfunction, working in line with established clinical pathways.
The service supports patients registered with a Southampton City GP and delivers Level 2 Specialist Clinics across West Hampshire. Referrals are accepted from healthcare professionals or via self-referral.
As part of your development journey, you will engage in a comprehensive learning programme. Once you have demonstrated sustained competency, your role will transition to a Band 6 Specialist Nurse.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Deliver high-quality, evidence-based care for patients with bladder and bowel conditions.
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate treatment plans tailored to individual needs.
- Work towards developing expertise in continence care and advanced clinical practice.
- Participate in the coordination and delivery of specialist bladder and bowel services.
- Contribute to patient education, staff training, and the promotion of continence care across the Trust.
- Engage in service development initiatives and support quality improvement projects.
- Collaborate with colleagues across disciplines to provide seamless and holistic care.
- Promote the Trust’s commitment to compassionate, safe, and effective care aligned with the NMC Code.
About the Team
You’ll be joining a passionate and experienced multidisciplinary team that includes Specialist Nurses, Health Care Support Workers, and a Women’s Health Physiotherapist. Together, we support a wide range of continence and pelvic floor needs with a strong focus on patient-centred care.
About You
Essential:
- Registered Nurse with active NMC registration (Adult or equivalent)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience in patient assessment and developing care plans
- Committed to personal and professional development
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- A full UK driving licence and access to a car for travel between sites
Desirable:
- Previous experience in continence or bladder/bowel services
- Knowledge of continence products and service delivery
- Teaching or assessing qualification (e.g., ENB 998 or Practice Assessor)
- Experience supervising junior staff or students
