About the Role
Westmorland and Furness Council’s Highways and Transport service is seeking an experienced, motivated, and friendly individual to join our team as a Highways Network Engineer. This exciting opportunity is perfect for candidates with a background in highways, transportation, or construction who are eager to contribute to a large and dynamic organisation.
As a Highways Network Engineer, you will play a key role in managing and delivering highway improvement and maintenance projects. Your responsibilities will include overseeing surveys, design, specifications, and data collection. You’ll also support the South Lakes Area Highways team in preparing and processing projects to improve and maintain local road networks.
You’ll be responsible for offering technical advice and guidance to colleagues regarding highways design and maintenance standards. Additionally, you’ll advise both internal and external customers on legislation, policy, regulations, and principles relating to highways.
This role requires experience in highway, transportation, or construction design, as well as knowledge of local government processes and customer relations. A solid understanding of construction contracts, highway maintenance activities, and national design standards is essential. You’ll need to be able to work under pressure, manage budgets, and be an effective team member.
Experience with Winter Maintenance is a plus, as you will also assist with Winter Maintenance activities.
