Job Description

About the Role

The University of Sussex is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to contribute to cutting-edge cosmology research linked to the Simons Observatory.

This role focuses on advancing our understanding of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) through both theoretical work and data analysis. You’ll collaborate with a local research group led by Antony Lewis, while also engaging with the wider international Simons Observatory collaboration.

Your research will explore areas such as:

  • CMB lensing
  • Power spectrum estimation
  • Likelihood analysis and cosmological parameter inference
  • Related topics in observational cosmology

Alongside collaborative work, you’ll have the opportunity to pursue your own independent research ideas within the broader project scope.

What You’ll Be Doing

In this position, you will:

  • Analyse complex cosmological datasets from Simons Observatory
  • Develop and refine theoretical models related to CMB science
  • Contribute to high-impact research outputs and publications
  • Work closely with international collaborators
  • Explore new directions in cosmology aligned with your research interests
  • This role offers a strong balance between teamwork and independent research development.

About You

You are a motivated researcher with a strong background in cosmology and data analysis.

Essential:

  • PhD in physics, cosmology, astrophysics, or a closely related field
  • Expertise in CMB data analysis or similar areas
  • Strong numerical and computational skills

Highly desirable:

  • Experience with CMB lensing or large-scale structure analysis
  • Previous involvement in major collaborations such as Simons Observatory or similar experiments
  • Postdoctoral research experience
  • You should also be comfortable working both independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
