Role Overview
Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is looking for an experienced and confident senior nurse to provide strong clinical and operational leadership across its Endoscopy services.
This role is central to ensuring the smooth and safe running of the department across a 24-hour period. The successful candidate will lead nursing teams, coordinate staffing, and ensure patients consistently receive high-quality, compassionate, and evidence-based care.
You will act as a key point of leadership within the service and deputise for the Matron when required, supporting strategic and day-to-day operational decisions.
Main Purpose of the Role
The post holder will oversee the delivery of safe and effective patient care while maintaining professional, organisational, and national healthcare standards.
This includes supervising the full patient care pathway—from assessment and planning through to implementation and evaluation—ensuring that clinical outcomes, patient experience, and safety remain at the forefront of service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Leadership
- Provide visible leadership to nursing teams across both Endoscopy departments
- Support staff in managing complex clinical situations and decision-making
- Ensure patient care is delivered in line with professional standards and Trust policies
- Promote a culture focused on safety, dignity, and patient-centred practice
Operational and Workforce Management
- Coordinate staff deployment to meet service demand across sites
- Contribute to rota planning, appraisal processes, and staff development
- Supervise and support team members to maintain high performance standards
- Deputise for the Matron and assume responsibility for departmental oversight when required
Governance, Quality and Safety
- Monitor compliance with infection prevention, health and safety, and risk management frameworks
- Participate in clinical audit, governance activities, and service improvement initiatives
- Ensure accurate documentation and adherence to regulatory requirements
- Support implementation of national best practice guidance within endoscopy services
Collaborative Working
- Work closely with the multidisciplinary team including medical, allied health, and operational colleagues
- Contribute to strategic planning and service development across the Endoscopy pathway
- Support communication between departments to improve patient flow and experience
