About the Department

The post sits in a research department jointly led by Kate Walters and Greta Rait. The department’s work spans community health, disease prevention, and service delivery research, combining academic excellence with practical impact. Teaching and research are strongly linked, ensuring that new evidence informs frontline health and social care practice.

Role Purpose

This position forms part of the National Institute for Health and Care Research Research Support Service hub — a collaboration involving Imperial College London, Queen Mary University of London, and King’s College London.

You will act as a translational research adviser, helping innovators — including small and medium-sized enterprises — design strong, fundable research projects in health technology, medical innovation, and life sciences. The role blends research methodology, regulatory understanding, and strategic consultancy.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Advising on applied research design and translational pathways
  • Supporting development of competitive funding proposals
  • Guiding innovators through regulatory and governance frameworks
  • Collaborating with clinicians, academics, and industry partners
  • Contributing to specialist advisory services focused on innovation
  • Helping convert early-stage ideas into implementable research

The role requires analytical thinking, strong communication skills, and the ability to work confidently across multidisciplinary environments.

Contract & Eligibility

  • Open-ended appointment with funding secured to September 2028
  • Full-time, hybrid working arrangement

Candidate Profile

You will bring:

  • A PhD or equivalent experience in applied health or social care research
  • Expertise in translational research and quantitative methods
  • Experience developing or reviewing funding applications
  • Confidence working with SMEs, clinicians, and academic partners
  • Understanding of innovation governance and regulatory pathways
  • Excellent organisational and consultancy skills
