Job Description
We’re seeking an experienced Senior Process Integration Engineer to lead the development of specialized manufacturing workflows for cutting-edge MEMS and micro-optical technologies. In this role, you’ll translate innovative R&D concepts into production-ready processes, creating and refining custom fabrication sequences that power our advanced hardware solutions.
This position offers a unique blend of hands-on technical work and strategic process leadership. You’ll divide your time between cleanroom development activities and collaborative work with fabrication partners, research institutions, and equipment vendors to advance process capabilities.
What You’ll Do
- Design & Develop Custom Fabrication Workflows – Create, test, and optimize manufacturing sequences across diverse substrates (silicon, glass, compound materials) for MEMS and optical components.
- Lead Rapid Prototyping Cycles – Accelerate development from design to physical validation, pinpointing critical process variables and optimization opportunities.
- Mature Processes for Production – Build comprehensive documentation including mask layouts, material specifications, and process interdependencies; transition experimental workflows into reliable, scalable procedures.
- Partner with External Organizations – Engage directly with academic research groups, fabrication facilities, and tooling manufacturers to validate emerging process technologies and materials.
- Execute Hands-On Process Work – Operate and diagnose key fabrication equipment (including lithography systems, deposition chambers, etch platforms, and bonding tools) throughout development and technology transfer.
- Provide Technical Leadership – Mentor internal process technicians and coordinate with external collaborators to ensure rigorous process control, yield improvement, and systematic design feedback.
- Drive Data-Informed Improvements – Apply statistical methods (DOE, SPC) and metrology analysis to accelerate process optimization and maintain tight control windows.
- Document & Share Knowledge – Create detailed process records, facilitate technical reviews, and conduct failure mode analysis sessions.
What We’re Looking For
Required Qualifications:
- 5–15 years in MEMS or advanced microfabrication with substantial process integration experience
- Demonstrated success developing or substantially modifying complete process flows for novel MEMS or micro-optical products
- Deep expertise in at least three areas: photolithography, deep/reactive ion etching, thin-film processes (PVD/ALD), wafer bonding, or wet chemical etching
- Ability to seamlessly transition between detailed tool-level work and big-picture process strategy
- Track record of successful collaboration with external fabrication facilities, research consortia, or equipment suppliers
- Proficiency with statistical process tools (JMP, Python, etc.) and rigorous documentation practices
- Degree in Materials Science, Electrical/Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline (B.Eng./M.Sc./Ph.D.)
- Strong communication skills with ability to excel in fast-paced, cross-functional teams
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in wafer-level packaging or flip-chip integration for MEMS/optical devices
- Experience moving R&D processes into pilot-scale or production facilities
- Knowledge of simulation tools and characterization techniques (finite element modeling, profilometry, interferometry, electrical/optical testing)
