We are looking for a compassionate and experienced Learning Disability Nurse to join our Integrated Learning Disability Team in County Durham. This Band 6 post offers the opportunity to work with adults who have a diagnosed learning disability, including individuals presenting with behaviours that challenge.
You will become part of a well-established, supportive multidisciplinary team delivering specialist secondary care within the community. The service is led in partnership with Durham County Council, with clinical systems supported through both local authority and NHS platforms.
This is a role for someone who is passionate about person-centred care, values collaboration, and wants to help shape and strengthen community learning disability services.
What You’ll Be Doing
Clinical Leadership & Caseload Management
- Hold and manage a complex caseload of adults with learning disabilities.
- Complete comprehensive assessments and develop individualised care plans.
- Deliver evidence-based, trauma-informed and recovery-focused interventions.
- Monitor outcomes and adjust care plans as required.
- Coordinate care across agencies and act as lead professional where appropriate.
Supervision & Development
- Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to junior staff and students.
- Contribute to training and education within the team and partner organisations.
- Support quality improvement and service development initiatives.
Legal & Professional Practice
You will work confidently within key legislative frameworks, including:
- The Care Act 2014
- The Mental Capacity Act 2005
- The Mental Health Act 1983
- Safeguarding legislation and guidance
You must maintain active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and comply with the NMC Code and revalidation requirements.
What We’re Looking For
Essential Requirements
- Registered Nurse (RNLD or RNMH) with current NMC PIN.
- Minimum 18 months post-qualification experience (including completed preceptorship or competency framework).
- Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience supervising students or junior colleagues.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Knowledge of risk assessment, clinical governance, safeguarding, and medicines management (including injectable therapies).

Travel Requirement
Due to the community-based nature of this post, you must be able to travel independently across the locality and have access to suitable transport for business purposes. Reasonable adjustments will be considered under the Equality Act 2010.
Compliance & Safeguarding
This post requires an enhanced DBS check through the Disclosure and Barring Service in line with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975.
