Overview of the Role

The University of Sussex is recruiting a Research Communications and Events Officer to support the work of the ESRC Centre for Digital Futures at Work (Digit). The centre investigates how digital technologies—such as artificial intelligence, automation, and digital platforms—are transforming the modern workplace.

In this position, you will help ensure that the centre’s research reaches a wide audience including policymakers, employers, trade unions, and the wider public. You will contribute to communication strategies, produce accessible content, and coordinate events that showcase research findings and stimulate discussion around the future of work.

The role sits within the Professional Services team of the University of Sussex Business School and involves close collaboration with academics and partners across institutions.

Key Responsibilities

1. Research Communications

  • You will play an important role in sharing research outputs in engaging and accessible formats. This will include:
  • Writing and editing content for websites, newsletters, and social media platforms
  • Translating complex research findings into clear and engaging material suitable for non-academic audiences
  • Supporting the publication of policy briefings, reports, and research summaries
  • Promoting research outputs and events to a range of stakeholders

2. Event Coordination

A significant part of this role involves planning and delivering events that promote dialogue between researchers and external audiences.

Typical tasks include:

  • Organising workshops, seminars, and conferences
  • Managing event logistics such as scheduling, registrations, and communication with speakers
  • Supporting hybrid and online events
  • Ensuring events run smoothly and meet engagement objectives

3. Stakeholder Engagement

Digit works collaboratively across multiple institutions and external organisations. In this role, you will help maintain these relationships by:
